Tutu Tuesday 6 year anniversary featuring 6 hours of Atish

May 13th, 2014

From its early beginnings at Vessel to a brief stint at Triple Crown before making waves at Santos Party House in Manhattan followed by a magical era at 222 Club and ultimately landing at its Harlot haven, TUTU TUESDAY has always been a joyful blessing that I am thrilled to share with you.

Never when I heard the words “Tutu Tuesday” on a lovely stranger’s lips on an art car at Burning Man 2007 would I have dreamed that my 2008 New Year’s resolution to wear a tutu every Tuesday for the entire year would lead to a 6 year long adventure of mesmerizing music, fantastic friends, and so much LOVE!

Due to the close of 222, we were dispossessed of our plans for Atish to play for 5 hours at the 5 year anniversary so we haven’t celebrated an anniversary for two years and THIS, my friends is going to be the BIGGEST celebration in Tutu Tuesday history with Atish playing a made-of-dreams 6 hour set.

Atish’s residency with Tutu Tuesday coincided with our debut at 222 and pretty closely aligned with the inception of his DJ career. Since that time he has enjoyed a bewildering amount of well-deserved success. His humble genius has been received enthusiastically by fans all over the world and it is simply amazing that we get to enjoy this man’s music at every Tutu Tuesday with rare exception. His commitment to Tutu Tuesday has made it the special fairyland it has become and I am forever grateful.

In honor of Atish’s determination to serve the less fortunate, we will be donating this anniversary’s door profits to Project HOPE Art, a charity benefiting the impoverished youth of Haiti by sharing with them the transcendent beauty of art and music. Operated by talented humanitarian Melissa Schilling, who will be moonlighting as our door hostess, this monetary gift will help to bring a new music program and electronic pen pal system to these underprivileged yet inspiring children. So, simply by coming this soiree, you are doing your part as well. Feels good, doesn’t it?

We really want you to come early and stay all night; to be with us on this musical journey. For that reason we are escalating the production of this event and scheduling many exciting happenings for the early part of the evening.

For one, we are opening up both floors for the entirety of this unprecedented occasion. Upstairs, the Golden Gate Dolls will host a complimentary bubbles toast at 8pm for early arrivals. The Tracy Piper will be showing her art work, some of which was created live at Tutu Tuesday, and also some prints of her popular works will be available for sale. Lance Jeffrey Skundrich is setting up a loft photo studio where we can immortalize you in all of your tutu glory. He and Tim Coy will be tag teaming the dance floor bringing their unique perspectives on your shining moments.

Downstairs, Cassandra Love Lambert will be offering her loving hands with some face painting creations AND the ridiculously amazing Icarus Zaure is going to bring his air brushing talent to the table. Seriously, you are welcome in advance. Between the two of them, some of our most zealous attendees will be decked out in intricate embellishments that you will wish could last longer than one night. Even further, Julian Contreraz is bringing a crew of stylists to offer sexy updos for our early-comers from 8pm-10pm.

Some of our best performances of the night are going to occur well before midnight so don’t miss out on any of the night’s fabulousness (and the opportunity to be beautified by our able-handed helpers) if you can help it! Erin Shredder is going to light up the dance floor with an eye popping hula hoop show, Inka Siefker is going to make you disbelieve your eyes with her unparalleled cortortion abilities and you won’t be able to take your eyes off of Katie Scarlett as she graces us with her sexy presence. Let’s not forget Jym Schmidt who has kept us bursting with smiles with his next level costumes and artful dance moves.

Well friends, I think that just about covers it. All that is left to discover are the wonderful, much-anticipated surprises of what creative costumes you will wear, which new and old friends you will be dancing with, and how many hugs and kisses we can collect along the way.

THANK YOU ALL for making this so perfectly possible.

Tutu Tuesday featuring Metrika and Atish

April 8th, 2014

Woe Nelly! Spring is in full swing and the Year of the Horse is looking damn fine for Tutu Tuesday. Mike Khoury filled our hearts last month and now we are careening in a slightly different direction with a live set from Mexico’s Metrika.

No less heartfelt, métrika's style incorporates sophisticated vocal sampling to produce a sound that feels more song than track. In a subculture where many DJs are grappling to be the first to play the next micro-hit, Metrika steps out on his own-fearlessly provoking the crowd to euphoric heights with his layering rhythms. In other words, he is a bad ass.

Tonight we are going to reach a little further into our pockets of taste and emerge with a refreshing gaze into the myriad of possibilities we call dance music.

Tutu Tuesday featuring Mike Khoury and Atish

March 11th, 2014

Finally! Ever since Mike moved out to NYC we have been vying to get him back in our tutu corner and it is HAPPENING. His emotive, atmospheric sets stretch our hearts and minds into greater reaches of the love zone layer, leaving us floating on clouds. For good reason, Khoury is the New York-based resident of All Day I Dream and this mix alone is cause enough for you to come out and celebrate his return to SF:

BOOM. Also, the ever inspiring Ellastico will be performing his jaw-dropping feats of contortion for your disbelieving eyes. Seriously, its amazing.

So there you have it. Another great night with face painter Cassandra Love Lambert and the charming Lance Jeffrey Skundrich capturing your tutu-loving smiles. Remember, this only happens once a month and our lineups very rarely repeat so each and every party is the opportunity of a lifetime.

Make your heart happy and your feet ache every 2nd Tuesday at Harlot San Francisco

Tutu Tuesday featuring Eduardo Castillo and Atish

February 11th, 2014

Well, tutu family- it is the second Tutu Tuesday of the year and, with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you can rest assured that we have double dosed our love prescription just in time for your favorite party.

For one, the man behind LA’s infamous Voodoo parties and now the epic Pattern Bar, Eduardo Castillo is joining us for his tutu debut. His name has been on a lot of lips lately thanks to his post-temple burn set on the Robot Heart that has garnered much attention. Aside from sheer talent, Castillo is an all-around great guy who is a pleasure to be around so he is the perfect fit for our humble love fest.

Per usual, we will have photographers on board to capture all the magic, an exciting new circus act, live painter and face painter. What more could you want? We have some extra special guests tonight so rock your best smiles and swish your hottest moves across the dance floor once again and always….

Tutu Tuesday featuring Francis Harris and Atish

January 14th, 2014

Hey lovers,

Super stoked to announce that the first guest of the New Year is none other than Francis Harris! Yes, the Scissor & Thread label head is coming to San Francisco straight off his BPM showcase to give us a fresh taste of his latest works and finds.

While he became a household name as respected producer Adultnapper, he has truly come into his own as a DJ under his given name. Francis Harris’ set at The End Up for the listed Play party was absolutely mind-blowing and we are still talking about it! His mixes feel somehow familiar and esoteric at the same time. This combination of warmth and mystery creates a distinctive dance floor vibe that is as conducive to a vigorous dance session as a story-driven epiphany. Seriously, can hardly wait to share this with you…

Tutu Tuesday featuring Danny Howells, Xo Chic, and Atish

December 10th, 2013

Dear Tutu Family,

Happy Holidays! The tutu is a gift that keeps on giving. I encourage you to gift your tutu this December and pick up a new one in January. Whether you were naughty, nice, or a hearty swig of both this year, we know just what you want and we are going to give it to you. You are welcome in advance:)

For our December tutu soiree, we welcome back the beautiful, the fashionable, the talented Xo Chic. When Tutu Tuesday made its debut at 222, she kicked off the scene in style and we are so excited she is coming back to join us at our new digs! Let’s face it, there are just not enough fiercely fabulous female DJs in the world and this lady is one AND some. As one half of Dollz At Play, she tours the world with hubby Mr.C’s Superfreq party and as a solo artist she cultivates another sound-sassy, punk-laced, dark disco-that is uniquely hers. This doll has it all…

Keeping up with our showing of fantastic feature performers over the last few months, Chloe Marvel Light Axelrod is drumming up a special number for us that we can’t wait to show you. Close friend and fellow contortionist turned brilliant painter, The Tracy Piper will be live painting Ms Chloe on the same night. Isn’t it romantic? We thought so…

In further mention, Nina Mehta astounds us every month with her increasingly impressive tutu-inspired visuals. Just when we think it can’t get better, it does. So happy to have such decadently high walls to showcase the splendor.

Ok, I am really getting going now—I simply do not mention enough how AMAZING ATISH is. Tutu Tuesday, in its presently awesome form, would not exist without him and we are so lucky to have the best damn resident. ever. His monthly Soundcloud mixes reflect a thoughtful dedication to dance music that is rarely witnessed. In fact, you should listen to any and all of them right now:

BINGO! We have not one, but tutu, truly fabulous photographers to capture all these precious moments. Harlot resident Lance Jeffrey Skundrich wows us every month with his signature double exposure captures that are utterly apropos for a tutu party. AND I am proud to announce that special guest photographer Richard Henry Thomas will be joining us to take some magnificent Holiday family portraits in all your tutu glory. Richard is so amazingly gifted at composing flattering, artful poses that you will be sharing the photos with your mother as soon as you are tagged—and she is going to love them as much as we do.

Last but not least, Danny Howells is joining us to celebrate Gunita’s birthday! Another hot ticket—local jewelry extraordinaire Venus Superstar is circling back to us to showcase her latest collection.

Are you in love yet?

ps. you look great in your tutu

Tutu Tuesday featuring Bill Patrick and Atish

November 12th, 2013

It’s been an incredible year for Tutu Tuesday. Despite the tragic downfall of our 222 kingdom, we have risen once again in the sultry abode of SOMA’s Harlot. We have enjoyed many exhilarating guests over the years but this one takes the cake.

For one, Bill Patrick is a mega-talent who gigs at some of the biggest, best parties in the world and he is still totally down to come play at our little soiree (which pretty much makes him the coolest). For tutu, Bill Patrick doesn’t give a flying fuck what people think about him wearing a tutu— which means, he utterly gets it.

In the words of quintessential, globetrotting party boy Seth Troxler, “everyone has a tale about our friend Bill Patrick.” We are about to get ours when he makes his way to Tutu Tuesday this month. Say Yes to NOvember and be a part of the story.

Tutu Tuesday featuring Jason Greer and Atish

October 8th, 2013

Following the most epic after-burn party tutu date, we welcome local tech-house darling Jason Greer to the stage. This debut is a long time coming and we are so pleased to finally announce his tutu appearance! Co-founder of We Are Monsters and Bionic resident, Greer is a mighty pillar in the underground house music scene of San Francisco. His trippy take on dance music is beautifully orchestrated and set on journey mode. We aren’t kidding. He is going to take us down a winding path on a magic pony to the rainbow’s end. Good thing you are wearing your tutu!

Tutu Tuesday featuring Philipp Jung and Atish

September 10, 2013

They say good things come to those who wait so we held off on this booking for the off-chance that the ever fabulous Philipp Jung would extend his west coast visit to play this Tutu Tuesday—and we won!

It is not easy to pin down this globetrotting DJ demigod but he is feeling the Burning Man vibes and we are about to Get extremely Physical at Harlot this month.

What can I say? You are welcome, people. I am SO damn excited!

Tutu Tuesday featuring Naveen G and Atish

August 13th, 2013

Burning Man is less than a month away, and since that epic desert experiment is the very inspiration for Tutu Tuesday, this is the best time of the year to get excited about tutu merriment!

listed artist NAVEEN G kicked off this prized experience 2 years ago so it is with fitting pleasure that we welcome him back for another round. Resident ATISH and Naveen have a great musical chemistry so we will enjoy a tagging set between them—a masterpiece in the making.

Our resident painter Tracy Piper cannot be with us this month but there will be no shortage of visual inspiration when NINA MEHTA joins the tutu crew as our in-house visual artist.

The playa Tutu Tuesday is so worth getting psyched about so if you haven’t got a tutu yet, this is your best opportunity to get one before the burn.
